SALOHCIN - ARTIST STATEMENT
We all must confront reality eventually—especially today, as environmental threats force us to evaluate our role as stewards for future generations. We can no longer take the future for granted. Art has always been a catalyst for change; unburdened by bureaucracy or special interests, its voice remains powerful and pure. While nature has ways of healing herself, humanity lacks that innate self-repair -yet it is people who must drive real change. After years of sculpting with raw metal fresh from the mill, my perspective shifted when I acquired the land surrounding my studio to protect its rare trees and local ecosystem.Clearing human debris from the landscape opened my eyes to the sheer scale of our waste: short-lived goods abandoned in landfills, wilderness, and roadside ditches. Witnessing this daily, I vowed to work exclusively with salvaged materials. For the past two years, every piece I create has been built entirely from reclaimed metal. My latest collection reflects this commitment. Some objects retain recognizable fragments of their past lives; others are transformed beyond recognition. While a single artist cannot clean an ocean alone, real impact begins on a local scale. One recycler makes a start, but millions working together drive meaningful change. I hope these works resonate with you—even the larger, playfulness pieces that feel like escapees from a delinquent toy shop window.
